Broken Peace

I got this email from Lilia:

here this is the picturei wanted to send yesterdaythis is symbol of peace on my thumb where it came outand the thing on the wall behind is what is called dream catcherthis is from native american indian tradition to protect from harm by catching bad dreams and to only allow the good dreamsi made it after i studied their culture when i was university for my degreein arti studied all the art different cultures and specialised in colonialism of america it is interesting because now you see in israel and iraq they use the same racist language for excuse to take land and to kill people like they did in america to the indiansi have a friend here now - he is writing a book about colonialism and oil all this story about al qaeda for example and islam and terrorism it is all because of oili found out many thingsmasalan about 9/11the world trade centre buildings were bought a few months before they were collapsed by someone who got a special insurance deal. he will make billions on this insurance now whereas before these buildings were losing money and not good business. i also learnt that the 3rd building collapsed even though nothing touched it - there was special office for the mayor (who is connected italian mafia) that was like bomb proof inside that had clear view of both the 2 other towers - so they think this was like 'viewing place' - then exploded 'after' to destroy evidence. i found out also george bush - his father and osama bin laden - his father also - they had dinner TOGETHER the same evening 9 / 11 in america (i think somewhere in washington in fact). All this story about islam and christian and jewish religion fighting. it is all big big excuse for the leaders like big world mafia. the only people who gain from this - are the people who sell the weapons, and sell the oil. where i live they have the american aeroplanes flying outside my house on the way to iraq because there is military base here near where i live.
there is another picture i wanted to send you because we had protest here and i climbed inside the base pretending to be weapon inspector like they had in iraq as excuse for war. i was lucky because the police chased me but becaues i was woman smiling it was like big game. they put my picture in the newspaper. instead 2 my friends one month later they went inside but they got put in prison for 6 months, and then after the americans said they would shoot anyone dead if they went inside again, so i was lucky. so this picture i send you today is fordreaming of peace where before it was broken shokran.

i will send you more pictures you can use for your blog i will look for them

God helps you Liban!

Here are the rules to keep in mind when watching television news in the evening or reading the morning newspaper. Observing them closely will simplify things considerably.

Rule 1: In the Middle East, it is always the Arabs who attack and the Israelis who defend themselves. This is called reprisal.

Rule 2: Arabs, Palestinians or Lebanese do not have the right to kill civilians of the other side. That would be terrorism.

Rule 3: Israel has the right to kill Arab civilians. This is called legitimate defense.

Rule 4: When Israel kills too many civilians, Western powers urge restraint. This is called the response of the international community.

Rule 5: The Palestinians and Lebanese do not have the right to capture Israeli soldiers, even if their number is very small and does not exceed three.

Rule 6: Israelis have the right to kidnap as many Palestinians as they wish (around 10,000 prisoners to date of which some 300 are children). There is no limit whatsoever and Israel is under no obligation to provide any proof of guilt of the kidnapped persons. It only suffices to pronounce the magic word "terrorist." Lately this included members of the Palestinian Administration cabinet ministers, and members of parliament.

Rule 7: When mentioning "Hizbullah," one must always add the words "supported by Syria and Iran."

Rule 8: When mentioning "Israel," one should never add "supported by the United States, France and Europe;" otherwise people would think the conflict unequal.

Rule 9: Never speak of "Occupied Territories," UN Resolutions, violations of International Law or Geneva Conventions. This could disturb and confuse TV News viewers.

Rule 10: The Israelis speak better English than Arabs. This is why they and their supporters are allowed to speak as frequently as possible. This way they could explain to us the foregoing Rules 1 to 9. This is called journalistic neutrality.

Rule 11: If you are not in agreement with the above rules or you think they favor one party over the other, it is because you are a dangerous anti-Semitic, anti-democracy, and anti-freedom.

Maamoun Elmeleegy's new song.

Ne7lam Sawa

Ma2moun Elmeleegy has recorded a new song and a video clip called Ne7lam Sawa. I was at his gallery with a friend of mine (Mahmoud Youssef) on the 25th of Dec 2005, and Ma2moun was telling us about a song that he made the music for, which is talking about friendship between Muslims and Christians in the Egyptian society as a whole.
So Mahmoud suggested that Ma2moun can compose it and work on its video clip so it can be showed on satellite channels by the 5th and 7th of January, because he noticed that both feasts (Bairam & Christmas) are coming together in the same time. Actually it was a nice observation. So Ma2moun called the composer on phone, and played the song on the phone for him, and the composer did a lot of efforts to finish it quickly. Then Ma2moun thought of the idea of the video clip (Maamoun likes to direct his video clips:) and he thought of making it a story of two old school friends, a Muslim and a Christian, and the video clip begins with them sitting together and then flashing back to their school memories.
Ma2moun got introduced by that time by Christian young guys that own a video filming and editing company, so he asked them if they can do the video clip without charges because there is a kind of a national value in the words of this song. The guys accepted, and actually they did a very good job, the made a very nice video clip and in an extremely short time, and Ma2moun managed to send it to TV channels before the feasts by 2 days.
The nice thing about this video clip is that almost half of the crew are Muslims, and the other half are Christians, and all of them did this song for free, and just trying to send a nice value and message, that there are no differences between Muslims and Christians in Egypt, they are all Egyptians.

Here are some pics that were taken at Ma2amoun's gallery (Fantasy) last week.

Songs of all times

Tanita Tikaram

Night is falling
I think of you
I'm walking home
I think of you
And as he calls me, yes I do
I think of you
How you doing?
I think of you
And I smile, I can't hide
I think of you

I don't know where your days are spent
Your lovers and you friends
But I know for sure
Of who you have been thinking

Far beyond the city's lights
Are two who dream a life
Forgive them if they never find their freedom
Their freedom

It's so late
I think of you
He walks me home
I think of you
I'm so sorry, I'm so tired
I think of you
And in the shadows
I think of you
I close my eyes
I think of you
Now I'm falling
I think of you
think of you

As he calls my name, yes I do
I think of you
I think of you
I think of you
I think of you
I think of you

And in feeling
I think of you
And in breathing
I think of you
And in seeing
I think of you
And in living
I think of you

Ohhhh lovely yet strange lyrics. Few words, big message.

I woke up so early today and I don't know why! It's Friday and it's my day off, but I couldn't sleep well last night, anyway waking up could be better than half sleeping.

I thought of looking for a nice song that I adore, and I don't have anymore, it is "And I Think of You" (click to download) by Tanita Tikaram. Then a I looked for more songs that I lost when my hard drive crashed, here you will find some of these songs to download.

Beverly Craven- Promise Me - Feels Like the First Time

Wham! - (sounds lame but I love this song :) - Where Did Your Heart Go

Sade - (Pron. Sha-day) No Ordinary Love - Smooth Operator

Anita Baker - You Can Reach Me

Billy Joel - Honesty (I love this song's lyrics)

Oumaima - (singing Marcel Khalifa's songs) - Asfour - Risalatoho Alakheera

Four Non Blondes - What's Going On

Status Quo - Yes it's In the Army Now :)

Galabeya Story

A Galabeya story

Last weekend while I was driving my car in Alexandria, I noticed a very nice Galabeya in a shop's display window, the strange thing about this Galabeya is that it was Adidas lol, it looks so weird and funny. But actually the funniest part in this story is that when i stopped my car and tried to take the pics by phone of the galabeya (while i am still in the car) there were a woman (shop owner) sitting inside the shop and complained to her husband that a group of guys in a car outside are trying to take some sneak pics of me, and then he came heading for us while shouting, "that it is improper and indecent" the husband said. I told him, sorry we are not taking pictures of your lovely wife, we are much concerned with the nice galabeya :) so you will find in the second pic, the target (galabeya), the victim (wife), and the bodyguard (angry husband).

Opera House

Cairo Opera House Freak

I have been to so many concerts this month (4), 3 of them in the Cairo Opera House, and the 4th was in the Pyramids of Giza area.
The first concert was a Tango music night, and it was just great, mainly relying on a very talented accordion player, and an outstanding violinist (also he was the Maestro).

The second event I have been to was Madame Butterfly Opera. It was great, with an old Japanese ambiance, and lovely Puccini's music. The only funny thing was the actor that was performing Madame Butterfly's role, she was a very good actor with a perfect Japanese makeup, really sweet voice, but she was a bit over weight and tall which has nothing to do with Japanese women, and also she was called a butterfly according to her size. And within the show, Madame Butterfly appeared in a scene without her makeup and looked as Madame Fatafeet Elsokar to me. It was a great show anyway, very good actors, and great musicians lead by the Cairo Opera House orchestra conductor Nader Abbassi.

The third concert was for Omar Khairat, it was a great performance as usual, and it was his birthday too, I didn't know that this talented musician was a Scorpio, but no wonder, I am a Scorpio too ;)
At the end of concert we all (audience) sang happy birthday song to him, and his orchestra played it, it was cool and funny.

The 4th concert I have been to was Scorpions, yeah Scorpions!!!!
They performed in the Pyramids of Giza area in their Peace for All tour, which will be held in Cairo, Sharm Elsheikh, Abudhabi , and Dubai. The concert was breath taking event, the only bad thing about it that it started on time, Egyptians are used to late performers, so they wrote on the ticket that it will start by 10, I thought that Scorpions will not start before 11 to 11:30 at least (even Ihab Tawfeek does this). So i decided to go late, and I even went more late than i decided because of the smooth traffic of Cairo :) I entered the concert at 11, and it was not much crowded actually, i think that most of the people were not there yet because they thought of the same thing i thought of too. The only bad thing about Scorpions that they were punctuate, and started at the time written on the ticket, which is not a very common thing here lol. But the only good thing that i heard all the songs I love for Scorpions, they kept the best for last. They played, Holiday, Smoke is down, Still loving you, under the same sun, Here i am.

Simon the Shoe Maker (Sam3an El Kharraz)

St. Samaan (sam3an) El-kharraz

I went to Sma3an Elkharraz church and monestary two weeks ago for the second time. The church is located in Mokattam and it is carved in the mountain, it is very well carved, and actually it is a huge church with a big theatre like the Roman Theatre in Alexandria. Amazingly this beautiful church lies behind "Mansheiyet Nasser", the Zabbalin village (garbage collectors) which is extreemly looks as it is called!!. This village was erratically established in 1969 when the Governor decided to move all the garbage collectors of Cairo to one of the hills of the Mokattam. There, they built themselves primitive houses of tin. The number of trash collectors living in the area reached about 15.000 in 1987. This number has doubled now.
Reaching the monastery is quiet a difficult approach although you can smell the bad smell of garbage a mile away, and this could be the indicator or proof that you are hitting the right direction. But if you have the flu, don't worry, the people there will point you in the right direction knowing your destination without even been asked. The Monastery is reached through the narrow village streets, trash carts passing you by along with piles of rubbish, plastics and tins on the sides of the alleys with people sorting them out. Even if described in detail, the Zabbalin village is a hard place to picture, far from one's imagination; it can only be grasped on site.
At the far end of the village, awaits you an unexpected, stunning place; a vast open space lying in the bosom of the hills, with dramatic colored carvings all over the mountain. The cravings were mainly done by a Polish artist "Mario" that dedicated himself for this job.

The story (as they claim) of saint Saaman Elkharraz that he was a shoe maker, and one day he overlooked (looked with lust) at a woman's legs and feet, and he regret it so much that he chose to punish himslef and popped his eyes out using his sewing needle.

And then he moved to stay alone in a place on the Moqattam mountain, which is now the location of the church. They say that he has done some miracles, like healing sick people etc..

Sorry for the pics low quality, they were taken by phone.

Never explain--your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway.

A wise man gets more use from his enemies than a fool from his friends.

Old Love Stories

History

I was searching for a file on my old hard drive, and I found some wallpaper pictures that I made for Enya about 6 years ago.

When I was a teen, I was such a Don Juan, I had four love stories (unfortunately one sided), the very first was with Olivia Newton-John, the second was Dalida, the third was Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad aka. Frida, and finally the fourth was Enya. (excluding Beverly Craven because our relationship is still on).

Here are two pics that I found, I made them by cutting different web pics of Enya and just mixed them up and add some effects and text, the two pic are pretty the same pic but with different colour schemes.

Nour and Moutaz

Decisions Weekend

This weekend was a bit different than others, two critical decisions had to be taken! One of them was submitting my resignation to my former college (AAST), then one I used to work in for almost 5 years before moving to the German University in Cairo.
The second critical decision was either to ask the Lebanese actress Nour to take a picture with her or not, after aprox 15 minutes of convincing done by myfriend Haitham (evil) , I did ask her (what a lamer but it's worth it), I was so nervous and blushing, never thought that I would do such a silly thing before! Anyway, I looked as if I was just removed from bed! Whenever I look at this pic I remember "Beauty and the beast".

Here is the document :)

Some new pics of Nour taken at Costa Cafe' and Cilantro :)

Maamoun's Prize

Maamoun did it!

Maamoun Elmeleegy (a very good friend of mine) has won the best video clip in the 2005 Oscar Video Clip Festival in Cairo. The song's video clip (needs DivX codec) was the first product of the promising director Ayman Afifi. The song is called "Fe Elshaware3" which means "In the streets", and the video was taken in the streets of Cairo, about an artist walking in the streets watching people's faces, their facial expressions, misery, and desperation, and then he translates all of these emotions into some nice portraits and paintings.
The clip is nice and simple but without some shaking models :( lol, and actually that was the real reason why it was rejected and refused to be broadcasted by some popular satellite channels like "Mazzika" and the reason Maamoun was told by channel's officials "It doesn't go with the channel's Policy!" (Policy? no comment). The song idea and words (written by: Ahmad Qadry) came from the misery and suffering of the casual Egyptian citizen, and that was very well reflected in the clip, which was the direct reason to be rejected by Egyptian public channels! Only "Dream" channel accepted the clip, and they broadcasted it almost daily just before the a very well know talk show "Al3ashera masa2an". Fe Elshaware3's music was composed by Maamoun, Maamoun composed many songs, three of them were performed by Azza Balbaa.
Maamoun is originally an architect who owns one of the nicest galleries ever called "Fantasy". If you would like to know more about Maamoun and his music you can visit his site maamoun.net.

Road Trip

literally a "Road Trip"!

Our trip to Sharm was unforgettable.
We went to Sharm for 5 beautiful days, and it was really a cool trip. But as they say, nothing stays the same!
On our way back My car's power steering (ps) pump broke down while we were driving back from Sharm to Cairo, and this happened near El toor (415 Km away from Cairo), so as the usual drill, I drove to a "mechanic" (as they call him in the civilized world). The first thing the man (aka mechanic) asked about was.. "what's your car brand", and that was it!! I'd rather learn to fix it myself. So I decided to go back to Cairo and fill the ps tank every now and then. But apparently the "every now and then" turned to be every 20 Kms, or I won't be able to steer!
At the first oil fill , most of the can's oil went off the tank because of heavy wind, then after the 3rd fill we invented the "2om3" which helped very much to prevent wind and was really one of the best inventions ever known to humanity. It took me about 10 minutes to do the first fill, after a while my friend Amir volunteered to help, by the end of the trip (could be the 1002 fill or something) 30 nano seconds were enough to finish the whole oil filling job, and we felt that we are like the Formula 1 guys.
We used motor oil, because it is thicker than the ps fluid, it comes in a 4 liter can while ps comes only in 1 liter cans. And the motor's oil is much much much cheaper (it is leaking anyway). Finally the trip was nice, we saw the mountains (or actually every mountain) which you won't usually notice that much while you drive, but it took us 10 1/2 hours to get back to Cairo. Thanks god that we are all one piece.
